Own a piece of dinghy sailing history with this sail-ready 1946 wooden Snipe.
Designed by William Crosby in 1931, the Snipe is the direct precursor to (and inspiration for) Cornu's 470 that sails in the Olympics today. The Snipe and 470 share hull dimensions and sail plan.
This unique specimen is all wood, including the hull, deck, rudder, and mast. Most of the wood is still original, and in order to protect it a previous owner applied a thin layer of fiberglass to the exterior hull. The varnished wood deck (original) glistens with a holographic iridescence. The wood mask (also original) still stands strong at 21' from keel step to tip, and provides excellent flex to fine tune your rigging to the conditions. The solid brass keel forged during WWII era metal restrictions keeps this Snipe stable and upright even in gusty conditions without reefing. This boat has been lovingly restored to her former glory, and actively sails.
Boat comes ready to splash and sail. Seller is seeking an aficionado of small sailboat history, preferably someone with experience maintaining and sailing wooden boats. Delivery is available in most of the lower 48 (United States).
